Day 60 – New species

This is an apple pear

When I picked up the box, I thought it was some kind of a hybrid fruit like pluots or plumcot, but decided to give it a try anyway.

Growing up, we read about how the green revolution in India helped increase agricultural yield and made “better” fruits and vegetables. The ‘kalami’ mangoes I ate in Dharwad were a decent substitute for the Alphonso. But as we are learning, these are very murky waters. Agri bio tech giants like Monsanto and Cargill evoke strong feelings across the globe.

A lot more thoughts crossed my mind before I decided to pick that box. However, after reading that its not a hybrid, I am much more at peace to enjoy the fruit!
